Does anyone know if Siclian bank ATMs charge a fee in addition to the one charged by my American credit union for foreign transactions? Also is there a limit per day different from my Credit union's limit of $1500 dollar per day? Thanks, Michael
No fees from the Sicilian banks or from the Sicilian Mafia.
There might be a limit of €500 per ATM withdrawal, but the daily limit is the one established by your bank.
I have been running into transaction limits of €250. A message comes up that your card is out of credit if you try to withdraw a larger amount. Don't worry, just continue withdrawing on separate transactions.
I was just in Sicily two weeks ago. I withdrew €480 on one occasion and €530 on another, without any difficulty. The Sicilian ATM's did not add any fees.
Your credit union sets the daily limit, but the local ATM sets the limit per withdrawal. If you cannot withdraw the amount you want in a single withdrawal, you can do more than one withdrawal. ATM's in the US don't allow $1500 in one withdrawal either.
Sicily fan here! I am SO happy to see someone going! It's become my favorite destination in Europe! This, after many trips to Italy, and having family in the "North" that makes fun of Sicilians! They are a warm and wonderful people. The food is fabulous! If you want any information, PM me! Have a great trip!
If it's handy, we've had good luck taking larger withdrawals (e.g., 500 euros instead of 250) at a branch of Deutsche Bank, when convenient. As already stated, you can make multiple withdrawals from the same machine or multiple machines in one day.
