Hey Folks.. Need some advice. I'll be returning to Italy.. this time on a very short trip to Venice. I'll be staying for 3 nights in Lido and intend to take the vaporetto to Venice, murano, burano, etc. Since I'll be a solo traveller, how safe is it to be island hopping after sunset? I sure don't want to miss the late evenings in Venice and would like to head back to Lido after dinner (say 10ish).
Thanks.
It's perfectly safe. You'll see that lots of Venetians will be taking the boats at the same time; it's actually fun to be on a vaporetto at that hour, as locals outnumber tourists!
Also, 10 PM isn't "late" in Venice or other parts of Italy. People will be finishing dinner at that hour, so LOTS of people are out and about in Italian cities, either heading home or going to bars and cafes.
We wandered / got totally lost/ got off at the wrong vaporetto stop etc even late at night and always felt safe in Venice.
Been to Venice a number of times and have never encountered any unsafe situations. All things considered, if I were to choose one city in which to wander safely at night it would be Venice. Not to say something couldn't happen, but I feel 1000% safer their than most U.S. cities.
Got it!! Thank you everyone!!
