Shuttle busses at citavecchia to port

Has anyone ever taken shuttle bus from train station to the port? Cab rates seem extraordinary for a short trip

We take a city bus to the port entrance. Then you get on a port bus that takes you out to the ship.

Unfortunately, sometimes only one bus is running to a full cruise ship. Lines can get long.

It is a bit of hike but you can walk. There is a small city bus that loops between the station and the entrance to the port. The last time we were there it was 1.25 E but I am sure it is higher today. The train station is close to the port so you probably will see your ship when you exit the train. Cab rate are highs because it is such a short loop and hardly worth driving to and from the port. AND there is probably a couple hundred people wanting to make the same trip especially if more than one ship in port. We always walk. Nice walk along the beach but you cannot be over burden with luggage. It is all flat and easy to do.

In December 2022 there was private shuttle vans that took you to the ships for 10 euros each. Steep price for the short ride. It was pouring down rain that day so we paid up. The line for the bus was waiting in the downpour. The walk is around a kilometer from the train station. Definitely take the train to the port from Rome. Have a great cruise.

I've done this and your right--the taxi fares are a tremendous ripoff. The shuttle from the train station to the cruise port terminal works great--but you can't buy a ticket from the driver. In the train station, you need to buy the ticket at the food shop or the travel agency. Then go outside to catch the shuttle. It runs very frequently.

I have not been there in several years, but there may be some ships that leave from a terminal building that is directly served by a bus or taxi. Other ships, like our (Windstar) smaller ones were tied up to a pier, used their own gangplanks (with steep steps), and could only be reached by the internal port busses, cruise company transfers, and a tiny subset of cabs and cars with permission to drive onto the pier.
