We are a group of 6 people going to Venice. When we go from Venice to the airport, should we take the shuttle boat or book a private taxi boat. My recollection from a previous trip is that the shuttle boat can be crowded and painfully slow. And, how do I book a private taxi boat?

I just recently returned from Italy and took a water taxi to the airport. The cost was 120 euros, but as you say there are 6 of you so split up its not bad. My hotel, which was right on the grand canal ,arranged the taxi, and they picked us up right at the front door.
It was a fun ride too.

Yes, the cheapest way with public transport is 14 EUR per person. Spend an extra 6 EUR per person and go in style in half the time.
