I know, observation of a first-world problem. Seems that bottled/canned beverages that were .33 and .5 liter, the equivalent of 12 and 16 ounces in the U.S., are now .3and .45 liter.
The beverage industry cares about our health.
I'm not in Italy but in the UK, and we haven't seen that here.
I just went on line with Waitrose the premier supermarket and no change. 500ml, 330ml, 1l, 2l.
That was coca cola.
Italy has always offered small cans.
Hey Roberto! Really? You should have heard the soda industry moaning in Philadelphia when the mayor passed a 1 1/2 cent per ounce additional tax on sweetened beverages, with the funds going specifically for our cash-starved schools, parks, libraries, pre-K programs etc. Oh, and this did help health issues as there was drop in sales in the city.
Meanwhile I don’t recall the smaller volumes from my last trip through. Not sure how much I trust my memory any more.
The UK has had a sugar tax since 2018, with a rate for any soft drink with more than 5g of sugar per 100ml at 19.4p a litre and over 8g per 100ml of 25.9p per litre. The main effect has been that most manufacturers have changed their recipes to reduce sugar levels, which was the plan, aiming to reduce childhood obesity and tooth decay..
