should we bring a rain coat?

We'll be in Italy from June 10-28; Venice, Siena, and Rome. Is it worth the bag space to bring rain coats, or should we just do those oh-so-attractive fold-up rain ponchos for the occasional rain?

Zandy, I always wear a coat or jacket when I fly to Europe. First, because I am always cold on the plane and two, so I don't have to take up space to pack it. Since you are going in June, you could take a short, hip length, light weight all weather coat. I did so last June to France and England. Mine was well worn by the time I got home! And/or pack a small travel umbrella.

Take an rain coat. It can be used at night when it's cooler, and you never know with the weather.
We hit a downpour/hail store in Verona last year. tourist were buying cheap umbrellas from street vendors and paying through the nose for something that would last a few minutes in that wind!

A jacket is something I always bring. As another poster said, take it on the plane with you.

In a pinch, you can use the fold up ponchos. You just never know what you will encounter. I like having some kind of jacket with me.

I like traveling with an all weather coat and avoid umbrellas. Travelling the Brugge the umbrellas were a hazard with all the tourists. I thought I'd lose an eye. Besides, even a small umbrella weighs more than a lightweight jacket.

We are definitely going to find all weather coats before leaving, and it's a good idea about wearing it on the plane. I still like a small umbrella for those "just in case" days.

I am traveling in Italy the 2nd half of May and I am going to bring a light zip-up windbreaker with a hood just in case it rains or I am cold. I tend to always be more on the cold side anyway. I will just wear it on the plane too.

Joana, you sound like me. I tend to be cold way before anyone else feels it.
