Should I rent a car?

Thanks to this forum, I figured out how to get to Materra from Cinque Terre, we will fly into Bari and bus to Mattera where our self guided bike tour will begin.

Now I’m working on the end of the tour in Alberobello to final destination in Rome 6 days later. Thinking of renting a car? Do you think we have to train to Bari to rent a car? If we want to see Pompeii and surrounds is it best to rent a car and then drop it off in Rome? Where would be a good place to stay and how many days should we leave for Rome?

Thanks! Paula Stabler

A car could be useful depending on what you want to visit. Small towns and countryside can be visited more easily with a car.

If you rent a car with one national/international company (like Avis, Hertz, etc.) Bari is the closest place. You might find some local rental companies but you won't be able to drop off the car at another location, like you could with a major rental company.

Pompeii and surroundings (Sorrento, Amalfi Coast, Capri, Naples, etc.) can be visited easily without a car.

Sorrento is a good place to stay.

Rome, in most people's opinion, deserves 4 nights, or at the very least, 3 nights.
