I did not use them in Rome, but after that it was cargo shorts 75% of the time for me. Even locals are in shorts...LOL
In the hot summer they are great.
Yes, but shorts are now frowned upon in the USA. We expect all Italian visitors to observe our new legs-covered dress code.
Also, we now require that shoulders be covered by those entering our sacred Walmarts.
We are now in Italy (have actually been here for a week), and I concur with David that a lot of Italian men wear shorts. Some are capris, but a lot are regular cargo shorts, many with sandals or even Crocs.
Leslie H....I think that was me.
"Shorts on men are OK" says David. Yeah, well, the men who wear them would think that, wouldn't they? Much depends on the legs, gentlemen, much depends on the legs. My take? Shorts on men are OK if the men are playing soccer.
but better if they're playing rugby...
Ah, Norma and Regina, let me tell you of my experience in Paris. We were at the top of Montmartre, when an entire soccer team ran to the top of the steps. And then back down, and back up again. And again. Some were wearing shorts and some track suits. But it was some of the best scenery in Paris.
Oooh, Karen ! Hope you took some photos.
Well perhaps not all men... but soccer teams, Yes!
back to the point....yes, wear shorts in Rome by all means. we just came home from rome last week and it was HOT---35C most days. my husband wore shorts, along with the majority of men in the city who weren't working in offices. if your shorts/skirt hit the knee you are okay for churches.
I'd heard Italian men wear pants, so my 3 teen boys and DH took pants. The first 5 days (July 3-8) in Rome my boys were quick to point out to me the rare occasion they saw some male in pants - and he was usually over 70 yrs old. Rome was so full of tourists that I don't think we ever saw a native, and all the tourists had on shorts.
Gosh Patrick thanks for letting us know about the new dress code for Walmart. I'd hate to be refused entry when I visit later in the year.
