Shorts for boys (not men)

I know that shorts are fine for men in some cases, but can a 14 year old boy wear long (cover the knee) shorts into churches, or do they have to wear pants too?

For both men and boys, as long as the knees are covered you won't have a problem. For ladies, shoulders and knees.

For churches: knees, shoulders and midriff coverage is what is required. Dress up is not required so t-shirts (probably no satanic logos) and/or sandals are acceptable.

Men can look out of place in shorts. That isn't the case for boys.

Great- thanks- it will be hot in June so I want my son to be comfortable, and I guess my husband will wear pants or look like a tourist!

Thanks to both replies.

Laurie,, as long as you are not planning of visiting a church on a particular day,, let hubby wear shorts,, no one really cares,, I mean he IS a tourist ,,right? As noted, even if in shorts,, as long as knees are completely covered they will be allowed in churches( shoulders must be covered for men too, no tank tops). The men in Italy wear "man'pris" .. sort of long shorts or short pants,, like capris for men.. I thought they looked good in them.

I agree that the three-quarter length pants are great, and I own a pair that I wear when in Italy. I suppose some older guys might be able to get away with it, but they really are fashionable for younger men (GQ crowd). You can probably still find these in the U.S at a place like Diesel or Kenneth Cole. You’ll fit right in over there, but you’ll get a raised eyebrow when you wear them here.

Yes, I love the idea of the man-pris. My husband would not wear them, but I can't wait to see them in Italy. And I don't mind looking like tourists- Italians are so fashionable that it is useless to try to dress like them. We will just be comfortable and not worry and try not to look too bad.

Thanks again.
