Short visit to Pisa

Will be in Italy on Friday! Thinking of stopping in Pisa enroute from CT to Rome. Can anyone tell me how far the Pisa train station is from the Leaning Tower? Is 2 hours outside of the train station enough time to take photos - no tours. Need to decide what time to get the trains... Thanks for the help I know is forth coming! M

Run, don't walk, to the nearest bookstore and pick up a copy of the Rick Steves Italy 2010 book. You must not have it because this is one of the many questions answered in it, and if you have this question, you'll have many many more once you get there.

Have a great time! Italy is wonderful.

If your train stops at the smaller Pisa S. Rossore station (PI S.RT on the Trenitalia train schedules) from here it is just a 4 block walk to the tower. Went to Pisa last summer as a daytrip from Florence and got off at this station and then caught the bus back (about 15 minute ride) to the central train station. As a previous poster stated you will want the R.S. book. The above info and more is all in the R.S. Florence and Tuscany book. Buon Viaggio!

Not only is the walk a mile or so but it is fun. We just did it this past Friday and it was one of neat things we did. Great people watching, all those high end shops, my wife was enchanted and we read the comments from Rick's book. It was a fine addition to the Field of Miracles.

Actually we are flying into Pisa (way cheaper than Florence). We are staying there two nights and need recommendations of where to stay. Any ideas?
