The bad news is that Milan is located in the plain of the Po. The good news is that there a ski area only about 70 minutes away - https://www.dovesciare.it/localita/piani-di-bobbio The bad news is you'll need a car and the Alpine scene will be snow covered and not look much like Heidi's neighborhood. Save this desire for your next European trip in July or August.
It is not a short day trip, but if its a nice day, take the 7:20 am EC train to Brig, Switzerland, then take the 631 Postbus to Simplon Pass, getting you there by 10:54 am. Later, take the continuation of the Postbus back to Domodossola, Italy and get a train back to Milan. That will be a full day.
PS, Have warm clothing, not only will it be cold at the top of the pass, but windy as well.
There could be several options but none is short. Switzerland is the best option with public transportation.
The Bernina railway fills the slot; you could go as far as Pontresina then come back.
A round itinerary - Milano - Bellinzona - Airolo - old Gotthard tunnel - Goschenen - Andermatt - Brig - Domodossola - Milano will need a full day and a lot of changes but will have a lot of mountains.
For alpine scenery, but not too many mountains, also Milan - Domodossola - Locarno - Bellinzona - Milan could do.
On clear days (not so many) you can see distant Alps from Milan. You need an high observation point and of course the scenery is not alpine.
