I may be in Lucca for 2 weeks beginning of November. I'd love to hear from anyone who has done a similar "extended" short stay about possible lodgings to consider. Single retiree's budget, so looking for safe and clean, nothing extravagant... Thank you!
Hi,
When I stayed in Lucca about 6 years ago, I stayed at Hotel Melecchi which was just a few minutes walk outside the gate at Port Elisa. (They have a website). It was spotless, very modest spacious with a very nice roof deck. The host, Giovanni, spoke excellent English and catered to every need. Back then, I paid 50.00 US per night when I booked directly with the hotel. It was a very short cab from the train station (it was pouring when I arrived) but I was easily able to walk back to the train station when I left. I'd go back again
We just finished our RS Village Italy tour and stayed at the Hotel Celide while in wonderland Lucca. https://www.albergocelide.it/en/ It is well located, with an excellent breakfast.
Hi Janet,
If you are there for two weeks, what about an apartment?
I've stayed in Lucca twice, the first time for two weeks as I was attending language classes, and an apartment was great to be in rather than a hotel.
The second time was in a nice traditional apartment in 2019, just outside the walls along from the train station.
It had everything except a washing machine.
I'll see if I can find if it's still listed.
Lucca is delightful, one of my favourite places in Italy.
Edit: I've looked but can't find the apartment we stayed in.
I did look at Lucca for November on VRBO, and there are lots of apartments for about CAN$1,000 for two week stays.
That seems like a reasonable price.
Thank you for all the ideas! I haven't settled yet on just what sort of accommodation I'm looking for. I'm thinking that a longer stay in one place might net a lower total cost. Also looking for somewhere I'd have some company so I can keep using/practicing my Italian. And I'm a solo retiree so prefer that at least some companions are in my age range!
Hi Janet,
You could sign up for a week's Italian lessons in Lucca and then you would definitely meet people.
That's what I did on my first stay there in 2012, and I'm still occasionally in touch with some of the people I met back then.
