Short Connection in Munich

My flight will be from Dulles, to Munich to Venice. My layover in Munich is a short 40 minutes. Booked tickets through United, although I do believe they are codeshare tickets. I will only have carry on luggage.
UA106 to Munich arrive @ 740am
UA9691 to Venice ( Air Dolomiti ) Departs @ 820am

I have no idea what to expect at the Munich Airport, I did take a quick look at their website and it looks like the Air Dolomiti flight terminal is a sattelite terminal that I have to get to somehow.

So I guess my question is if all goes as normal as can be expected, is that 40 minutes really enough time?
Is there security or passport inspection that I need to go through?

If it is a legal connection and you miss it, they will put you on the 12 noon flight. Yes, you will need to go through Schengen immigration on your arrival in Munich.

I am not sure exactly how far you'd have to get to that Air Dolomiti terminal, but both flights being United and you only have a carry-on gives you a shot.

I will say that we have connected through Munich on the way home on our last two trips (Naples-->Munich-->Chicago) and so far I can say it's the most efficiently-run airport in Europe that I've seen. So there's that.

Good luck!

Presumably it's a Lufthansa flight which is quite good at managing transfers. They've personally guided us through tight connections due to late flights several times at Munich. The international flights eastbound often arrive early and the airport is a fairly easy transfer, so you should be ok.

MUC is my favorite airport to connect to Florence ((Lufthansa from SFO then Air Dolomiti, which is part of Lufthansa group). Voted the most efficient in Europe many times.
15 min from gate to gate is my average, including lines at passport control (very short each time) and restroom pit stop.
Lufthansa would rebook you on the next flight if you missed it, but unless your arrival is delayed you will make it.

Thank you. I fly quite frequently in the US and can kind of have a feel for different US airports, this will be new though.
Thanks again!

I find Munich to be a super easy airport to navigate. I always try to get my flights to Pisa/Florence from Munich. Your schedule is tight but I think it is doable.
