Short chianti wine tour from florence

Looking for a short tour of Chianti's wine region from Florence- can you do it by bus and then catch tour in chianti or is there a group tour that you can go on out of Florence in Oct. We don't have a car and don't want to spend a lot.

There are several tour companies that are recommended on this site by different contributors. One company is www.artviva.com. They have tours into Tuscany, both by bicycle and by coach, from 45 euro/pp to 140 euro/pp. Maybe something that they offer will fit your needs and your budget.

The cheapest way is to do your own tour. Research the bus time-tables, double check you aren't travelling on a Holy day or weekend, phone up the vineyard to make a booking, find out if there is a way to get from the bus-stop on the valley floor to the vineyard further up etc...its a lot of fun when you are young, I've done it myself. However, I wouldn't do it again that way. Wine tours cost around 125-140 per person. You can pay a lot more for a private tour. For your money you get a pick up to and from your Hotel, a guide who speak the language, and a whole different experience. If you turn up at a vineyard without a guide you will be poured some wine and left hanging in the air is the unspoken assumption that you will buy a bottle or two. If you go with a tour, because you have already paid, there isn't that feeling you ought to buy because you've tried five of their wines and don't much like any of them. I would recommend http::/www.slow-days.com for a tour in the Chianti Classico region from Florence, maybe http::/www.tuscanywinetours.com for those travelling from Sienna.

We are in Florence in late September and have booked a wine tour with Tours by Roberto. Have had great email communication and seems like it should be fun. Check out the website www.toursbyroberto.com.
