Planning on stopping in Milan early in May and wife was wondering if shops downtown will be closed on Monday?
If so, may schedule to be there on a Saturday instead.
Stores will be open on Mondays but not generally in the mornings. The retail week runs Tuesday to Saturday around 9:30-7:30 with a siesta from 12:30-3:30. On Mondays, businesses will be open from about 3:30 - 7:30pm. I hope this helps some
Since 2013 store opening hours have been deregulated and any store opens whenever they like. They just have to officially communicate their opening hours to the City.
Most open at least Mon-Sat.
Some close on Sunday and Monday morning. Some close only on Sundays (and not even all Sundays).
Opening hours in the weekday morning vary, but all open by 10am (some as early as 7:30am).
Closing hours range mostly from 7pm to 8pm but some stay open even later, much later.
The closing at lunch time is becoming rarer and rarer. Many, especially the larger stores, don't close at all at midday.
Some close one hour up to a maximum of two hours after 1pm.
By 3:30pm every store will be open
Siesta is a Spanish word that is not used at all in Italy. Most Italians won't know what you are talking about if you mention it there.
La Rinascente is a high-end department store in central Milan right next to the Duomo and is open every day with no lunch closing. On Mondays it is usually open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. In May it might be open a bit later. https://www.rinascente.it/rinascente/it/store/12/milano/ Enjoy!
