Shopping in Bologna

Can anyone fill me in on the shopping scene in Bologna? I'm in Florence currently and trying to find gifts. I haven't been to Bologna before and wondering if I should look here or hold out for Bologna?

Bologna is an affluent, foodie city more than a touristy city. It probably depends on what you want to buy. I like to window shop for crafts (ceramics, etc.), and I don't remember doing much of that in Bologna in 2015. I haven't been to Florence recently, but with its very heavy tourist numbers, it may be a better shopping opportunity unless you're looking for food products.

Haven’t been to Bologna but I love shopping in Florence. My favorites are the beautiful scarves at Massimo Ravanele. He gives them to you in a nice light weight envelope style box. His San Giminano scarf is as beautiful as a water color painting. These are silk and while not cheap they are affordable( 50- 90 Euro). He has a website. My last visit was in May.
I shop at Madova gloves and prices are similar for their lined gloves. It’s over the Arno. Again light weight small affordable with lots of options and great customer service. Last purchase was online shipped to USA last week. All went well

Bologna is wonderful for food gifts. We picked up small balsamic vinegar bottles there a few years ago. There is also an Eataly right downtown with many gifts. For small presents, there are of course all those fun magnets.

Depends on what you want. I buy leather and scarves in Firenze, food and housewares in Bologna.

As for housewares, I suggest having a look in Florence at Chiti, via dell'Ariento 59r (almost hidden on the back of the market stalls). There is also nearby another housewares shop that is closing so they are selling everything at reduced prices, via S. Antonino, almost on the corner of via Faenza (if it is still open).

In Bologna, I would also consider Venchi chocolate or Majani chocolate. Both are delicious and very attractive, with a good variety.
