helenli, I'm no expert, and certainly don't know equivalent shopping in Italy for comparison. But I will say we spent some time in the RINASCENTE Department Store in Florence (near the main tourist area) and thought it was pretty nice. We went there for the outdoor cafe on the roof (worth the view) and ended up looking through the store. Since you got no other replies, I thought I'd throw that in.

The Coin department store in Florence has a nice selection of those types of items. The store is located on Via dei Calzaiuoli and the housewares department is on the lower (basement) level. Coin is slightly pricy, but quality is very high. There are also some specialty bedding stores in Florence, such as the one on Via Pietrapiana near the Conad City supermarket. It's very pricy but might make for interesting window shopping. Once in Italy, you could also ask your hotel staff or apartment host for suggestions. Note that Coin doesn't have stores in Venice or Milan, but there are likely similar department stores.

We were just in La Rinascente Milan the other day and the housewares sections — one up and one on the lower level so check both — are lovely! And don’t miss the food dept. on the top floor.

Thank you 😊

I probably will go to all of them suggested above. I notice La Rinascente has flagshop in both Florence and Milan. Wonder if stores carry same item, also the buying dry food department. Since we will travel to lake como and final stop in Milan, perhaps don’t over buying till final destination, what’s your thoughts.

Perhaps each location carries some speciality or authentic items ( I.e. food or snack that can bring home)

FYI, words can’t express how much help the discussion forums have helped me to answer all kinds of questions, and all very helpful and supportive.

food or snack that can bring home

be sure that you will be able to take in whatever you buy. Customs and Ag Inspection may have interest in what you have.

The best kitchenwares shop in Florence is Annibali Chiti, via dell'Ariento 59r. The shop is hidden on the back of some stalls of the S. Lorenzo market and looks quite old, but the selection is the best in the city.

The Rinascente in Milan is their flagship store and is much larger than in Florence. Also Coin has a very large flagship store in Milan, but it is unconveniently located at Porta Vittoria, somewhat distant from the Duomo area.
