Shipping items home

What is the best way to ship items home from Italy?

I understand some stores will ship for you. Is it best to ship individual items or take one large package somewhere to be shipped? If so, where do I take it?

Hoping to buy some pottery, but w/ just carry ons, won't have room.

Thanks :-)

We also just took carry ons, but when we came home bought an inexpensive bag to carry on our purchases and checked the carry on bag. It was much less expensive than shipping.

If you buy something large and fragile it might be best to have them ship it. If you buy lots of things and need to ship a box home, I'd suggest using Mailboxes Etc. Google them for whichever city you are in. I used the Rome one near Villa Borghese and they were wonderful and pack everything very well with bubble and lots of tape. I haven't used the Italian PO but if they are similar to Spain, they just throw it all loose into a large box and tape it up and may not speak much English.

The suggestion of buying or bringing a cheap bag and filling that with your purchases to carry on and checking your laundry luggage is also very good and much cheaper. But then you have to carry it around for however long you are traveling.

It gets very expensive and takes along time to get here. I only buy what I can carry back. ie.I once est. shipping for 4 plates from Sorrento to California quote was $85.00. I pd $250 total for plates. Only you decide if it is worth it for you.
