Hello - I'm wondering if anyone has gotten married in Italy and shipped their wedding dress? I want to use UPS or Fed Ex and I'm hoping someone has had some experience. Did you pay any duties/fees for shipping your own dress?
Packed it in a box and checked it as luggage when I flew back to Italy. Then before the wedding I had the dress steamed/ironed. Don't know if this is an option you would want to consider or not, but you might very well end up paying customs on the dress when it comes into Italy. The laws on paying customs for incoming items is random and archaic, so I can't tell you how much you would have to pay. Good luck!
Wow!! Have fun!
My wife and I just got back from our destination wedding a couple weeks ago. She carried her dress on the plane for the flight there, then checked it on the way back. The flight attendants were thrilled to help (we were in coach) and found a safe spot for the dress on each leg of the flight. The TSA agents were also overly helpful when they found out it was a wedding dress.
I can't imagine there would be any duties or fees spcific to Italy. But any Italian mother would disown their child if they forbade a bride from bringing in a wedding dress :-)
Thanks for your responses. I guess I was not wanting to carry it with me because it would be just one more large bag I'd have to carry along with my 2 week honeymoon attire. That's what I get for getting married out of the country though!
Sounds like carrying it may be the best bet. Was your wife able to carry on anything else? Or did the dress count as her 1 carry on?
Why not ship the stuff that can be replaced instead? Do you realy want to take a chance on losing your wedding dress?
Unfortunately our wedding destination is not our first stop, we are visiting 2 other cities before then so we will need our regular luggage (replacable items) when we land and will still need to carry around all of it from city to city.
Oh well - I'm just going to deal with it :-)
