Shared Bathroom Etiquette

Hi,
In two weeks time I'll be in Germany for the first time and also for the first time I will be staying in a hotel with shared bathrooms. The hotel gets good reviews on the clenliness and availability so I really don't have too many worries but I do have one question though. Is it appropriate to walk to and from the shower/bathroom in just a bath robe? I was wondering what to do when I get out of the shower. It seems that my room would be a larger, more convenient place to dress but the more I thought about it, the more I wondered what most people do. Thanks for the advice Anna

I only had to share bathroom several times and if taking shower, just brought bathrobe in with me, was not going to try to bring clothes in and get dressed in steamy bathroom. It is always appropriate to tidy up after yourself.

I agree with Gail. Chances are you won't meet anyone anyway. Another reason to dress in your room is that you will be in the bathroom for a shorter period of time and be more considerate of other guests :-)

We often stay in B&Bs over the last 10 summer trips to Europe. Some of them do have shared bathrooms (as did a one or two on RS tours. My wife and I put on a cover up to go to and from the bathroom. Since we travel very light we do not take bathrobes but she throws on a shall type coverup and I use a pair of shorts. Our biggest goal is to get in and out of the bathroom so as to free it up for others who may be waiting to use it. We have never heard of anyone sharing our bathroom having problems with its use. Happy Travels

Good etiquette: don't hog the room by taking l-o-o-o-n-g showers or baths. And leave it clean. As long as you are decently covered, I don't care what you wear. Also, lock the door when you're in there.

Perhaps i've been missing some rule of etiquette, but I don't bring a robe, shawl, etc. I just make sure that what I'm sleeping in is not see through (and a dark color helps with that). I just walk down the hall in that (usually a mid-thigh to knee-length tee-shirt-type thing). I've found it's rare to even see anyone in B&Bs, convents, or hotels, but the closer things are to a dorm or hostel, the more likely you are to meet folks. Do bring/use flip flops, as well as a plastic bag to store them in when they are damp.
