Services at Tirano and Varenna-Esino train stations

We have conflicting information as to the availability of Trenitalia kiosk in the Tirano and Varenna-Esino train stations.
We have read several places, including Rick Steves' 2014 Italy book, that there no such services at these stations. ItaliaRail.com
assures us that there is indeed a Trenitalia kiosk in the Tirano station that will allow us to exchange our ticket vouches for printed tickets, along with the validation machine. Would love to hear from anyone who has traveled through the Tirano station recently who can confirm or deny that these updates have been made. Since Tirano is our first stop in Italy, we would love to hear that there is a shiny new kiosk in the station.

I haven't looked for a year or two at the platforms in Varenna-Esino, but when I was there there wasn't a ticket office or machines, the tickets were bought from a travel agency in the village not far from the station. It may have changed.

Best to contact Trenitalia directly on their website if you don't get confirmation here. We booked directly with them online & printed out pre-validated tickets for Varenna.

The stations and trains are actually operated by Trenord. Might be better off contacting them.

Wouldn't it be easier and safer if you just purchased an e-ticket at trenitalia.com/tcom-en?

Even if there was a machine to exchange tickets, it would be the same machine that sells walk-up tickets.

The Varenna travel agency has moved it's office to the station itself (outside entrance). They sell tickets but probably don't handle online purchases. When they are closed, you can buy tickets from the conductor, or tickets on the local line are also sold at the Barilott bar.

Tirano station has more services but I wasn't looking for a kiosk when I was there last fall.

Laura, that's great information as the ticketing situation at Varenna had been a hairball for some time. We'd purchased roundtrip (regionale) tickets in Bergamo so it wasn't an issue for us but there were some confused-looking tourists milling around wondering what the heck to do. No agent on that particular day was on the train to check/purchase from, either. Thanks for the update!
