I’ll be traveling to Italy in May. After visiting Venice, Bologna, and Florence, we plan to rent a car in Florence and spend the night in Siena, and then in Montepulciano. On May 22, we’ll leave Montepulciano and travel to Serrone, where my grandfather was born. We’re hoping to visit the San Pietro Apostolo Church. Would you recommend staying overnight in the area? Does anyone have recommendations for things to see, places to stay, or restaurants nearby? or other suggestions
After Serrone, we’ll continue on to Rome. Where would you recommend returning the rental car? Would Frosinone be a convenient option, or would it be better to return the car in Rome? We’ll be flying out of Rome on May 28.
As an additional note, we’d love to visit Pompeii. We initially thought of doing it as a day trip from Rome, but if it’s easier, we could return the rental car near Naples, visit Pompeii, and then take a train to Rome.
