September trip 1st time to Italy: Narni + Rome + ??

I'm going to Italy for my first ever trip to Europe this fall. Family members are getting a villa in Narni for a week so I'm starting the trip there. I expect to take the train into Rome for sightseeing and generally go along with whatever others on the trip want to do. What would you do with this as the base, and what would you add?

I'll be traveling on my own for the added days. I'm thinking of taking the train to Florence and potentially on to Venice, spending a day or two in each, and then flying home from Venice. Would you do that, spend more time in Florence, or would you go someplace else entirely? (I'm a vegetarian so I don't need to go in search of outstanding seafood.)

In my hometown I primarily use a bicycle for transportation and would love to somehow involve bicycling on this trip but can't afford to add an actual supported tour. I could potentially bring a folding bike with me.

Narni is in Umbria, you Should take this opportunità to visit this history rich region: Gubbio, Peruggia, Terni, Assisi
If you are renting an agriturismo, they might have one they could lend but make sure with the insurance. There are also plenty of places wherefrom you could rent it. Another option, if you have a licenze for small motorbike is to rent a vespa. If you are cycling, take note that Umbria is hilly. I do not know how it is in your place. Umbria is relatively quiet, so sometimes on empty roads, cars might drive a bit fast, so watch out and you'd be fine.

There is also a train station in Narni-Amelia ( you might like to take your bike to station with a locket) and can get to Fossato di Vico-Gubbio where you would have a bus to get to this gem Gubbio.
Price: 6,50 euros.
Ask in the station if you can take your bike in the train, it might be useful. Assisi is 1hr train.
Also know that regional trains are unexpensive compared to freccia and for small trips less than 2 hours it is not worth the difference.

Thanks for the tips. I've been thinking about what to add and haven't even started on what to do while I'm in Umbria so this is great.
