I've been browsing plane tickets from San Francisco to Florence and Rome for September 2024. There was a good United flight from SFO to FLR with a quick layover in Munich, and then direct from Rome (FCO) to SFO direct on the way back. It was $1,450 for economy in early November and now the flights have jumped to $2,000. Looking at Delta & Air France, the other airlines are similar price points. There are cheaper flights on Air Dolomite and Condor, but the quick jump of $500 in a month this far out surprised me. Have others seen similar price jumps and does anyone have the crystal ball for September 2024 flights? Jump on this price for the ideal flight times & duration, or do we think that the prices might settle?
Andrew,
September is a long way in the future, so I'd probably wait a few months to book flights as the prices may decrease.
Andrew,
I, too, was looking for flights Sept-Oct to FLR and out of FCO, but coming from Wash., DC. Having FLR as my arrival airport made it more challenging flight wise and at a higher cost. I switched my airport to arriving in Venice and departing from Rome aboard Turkish Airlines and booked a fantastic fare.
I played around with some September dates using Rome as the arrival and departure airport and see some great fares out of SFO with Turkish Air. It may be worth taking a look at.
Andrew,
One other thought occurred to me. I've found that availability and prices are often better when flying inbound to larger airports such as Milan or Rome. I have flown into Florence which required a layover in Frankfurt and transfer to a local short haul airline. Unfortunately I can't remember the cost. Your flight options will probably be better as you have a larger number of airlines to choose from, whereas I've only got two choices.
