I am traveling ti Italy on November 1. I sent in my application for a senior train pass on September 5 and still have not heard anything. Has anyone else had to wait this long? Any suggestions on what to do?
I waited for months last year. The reply came after our return.
I heard back within three days when I applied. So did others. Then something changed in their processing department and there are reports of some people waiting up to four months. It might be processed by November 1st but there is no guarantee.
For others, start this process as far in advance of your trip as you can.
We are seniors and did not know about this. Is this for Trenitalia?
Yes, for seniors. It's called Carta Freccia. However, I sent my application in on February 19 and have yet to hear from them!
Edited to add: It's really only valuable for longer distance trips.

This page contains the information , the form, and the email address to send it in to. I received mine promptly and have used it to good advantage. Others have had mixed results.
Carol, thanks for the link. It wants my Italian home address, which I obviously don't have. What did you do?
I didn’t put anything in the Italian Address blank, it is optional.
Carol, thank you
Before our trip of Sept 2022, I applied in June. I never heard back. While in Italy, a very helpful Trenitalia agent looked for our application. It was not found.
I would simply buy tickets. We did not spend that much on train tix. Don't worry about this - enjoy your trip!! We certainly did.
