Senior discount on Italian trains

Is there a senior discount available on Italian trains for seniors without advance purchase? I believe there is some kind of discount if you buy a special card, but I'm interested in a discount without purchase of any card.

We're seniors and I'm not aware of any senior discount. There is a "Silver Card" for 30Euro that does provide some discount but the Trenitalia site isn't smart enough to tell you how old you have to be to get it. Also, it's not much of a discount.

What you can get is the Amica fare. The Amica fare is a limited fare based on date, class and train category. You must buy these no later than the day before travel. If they are available when you buy tickets, they'll give you the 20% discount. You can read all about this at http://www.trenitalia.com/en/promozioni_offerte/index.html

There are senior fares for Italians. Assume your not an Italian resident. Italian train fares are fairly inexpensive so a discount is not that important.

Only discount that Americans can use is the Amica 20% advance purchase tickets. All others are reserved for Italian or EU residents.
