Sending packages from Italy to the States

Does anyone know an inexpensive but reliable way to ship stuff from Italy? We don't check our luggage, so anything oversized or not allowed in hand luggage must be shipped. Last week we checked out Mail Boxes Etc. in Rome, and they wanted almost 50 euros to ship a tube of posters and prints. Any ideas? We're home now, but will be returning. And I'm sure other folks could benefit from your experiences. Thanks!

This question has been asked frequently over the years. So far, seems no one has come up with what you're looking for: an inexpensive, reliable way to ship stuff home from Italy. The choices seem to be: pay the shipping cost, or check luggage, or buy less stuff. Most seem to choose a) pay the shipping cost.

Or maybe someone out there has found the perfect solution for cheap but reliable shipping of items from Italy, for those who don't like to check luggage?
