just want to inform you all as of the 17th of September the sena bus will no longer take you from Siena to Assisi. After finding a travel agent the quickest route other than renting a car is a 3 to 4 hour train. just an fyi

That is a bummer. I took that bus from Assisi to Siena and it worked out great. Very comfortable and easy.

From the looks of it, it doesn't even offer a bus from Siena to Orvieto. But maybe it never did, or maybe I am not looking at the schedule correct. But really it is a bummer because I was planning my Nov/Dec vacation and planned on using the Sena bus for my Siena-Assisi portion. I just don't want to lose 3-4 hours on a train, and I really fear driving in Europe. I have got lots to think about now.

Sorry for the use of all caps. It's not my usual style, but I thought that the information was significant enough (given the conflicting reports), that it was important to highlight it in some fashion.

I JUST GOT A REPLY E-MAIL FROM SENA BUS LINES. THE SIENA/ASSISI BUS SERVICE IS STILL IN OPERATION, BUT IT DEPARTS FROM THE BASILICA OF SANTA MARIA DEGLI ANGELI (Assisi's train station down the plain) RATHER THAN FROM ASSISI PROPER (there is a local city bus which connects to and from Assisi proper). ON THE RETURN TRIP FROM SIENA, THE BUS STOPS AT SANTA MARIA DEGLI ANGELI AND SHOULD TERMINATE IN PIAZZA SAN PIETRO IN ASSISI PROPER. See the SENA website for further details: www.sena.it Here is the text of the e-mail (in Italian): le linee Sena sono a partire non più da Assisi bensì da Santa Maria degli Angeli o da Perugia. Per ricevere ulteriori informazioni, contattare il nostro ufficio booking al numero 0861/1991900 oppure visitare il nostro sito internet www.sena.it.

Thank you for that information! I was puzzled for days till I saw this post. I'm trying to book that bus (from Assisi to Siena) based on the pickup point but it keeps telling me that no tickets are available for mid November. Are tickets not sold far in advance or is there no problem buying tickets when I'm in Siena?

According to Rick's book, there's one bus daily from Assisi to Siena at 16:40, but I'm looking at the SENA schedule and it looks like there's also a bus at 11:40. Am I reading it right? There are two buses daily from Assisi to Siena, one at 10:45 and one at 17:00, but according to Rick, the morning bus doesn't run from Nov - Apr.

Maybe I can clear up the confusion: The bus between Siena and "Assisi" NO LONGER GOES to or from Assisi Proper. Instead, it arrives at and departs from S. MARIA DEGLI ANGELI, which is Assisi's train station down the hill. There is a local city bus which connects S. Maria Degli Angeli with Assisi Proper. Here are the current schedules (DAILY): Depart Siena train station at 17:15 Arrive S. Maria Degli Angeli Basilica at 19:05 Depart S. Maria Degli Angeli Basilica at 10:20 Arrive Siena train station at 12:10. www.sena.it
