Just a note for those planning on visiting the Dolomites next weekend: Roads on the Sellaronda route over passes in the Val Gardena area will be closed to motorists on 18 September for this bicycle event.

We drove that road the day after the Giro d’Italia race in 2016, and there were plenty of bikers on the road. My husband wasn’t fazed by sharing the road, but I thought some sections were pretty harrowing where the road was narrow, there were no guardrails and lots of bikes. So it’s a good thing it’s closed! The scenery was breathtaking, as can be seen in the photos.
