Thinking of renting a self drive boat(40hp) for half a day from Torri Del Benaco area. Is it worth it? What are some things you can do? From what I have read docking in some towns may be difficult and there isn't much to do aside from driving around the lake and maybe finding a secluded spot to swim near boat. Thoughts?

For me I enjoy the lake by boat for the views - the towns/ mountains from a different viewpoint. If you are able to cross the lake from Torri and go towards Salo you will see some beautiful private and historic buildings like torre San Marco and palazzo terzi from the lake. (no docking). You may be able to rent by the hour also if you wanted shorter than half a day.

I have also been interested in this and have had trouble finding information. Someone suggested Punta San Vigilio as a cool place where "locals" tie up and have lunch, but the menu to me does not look like it is for locals. It looks overpriced and not great.
We are also thinking of renting a sailboat one day in the north part of the lake, because our kids sail.
From what I am reading, I think you should get in touch with the places from which you are considering renting the boat and see what they have to say about what to do, where to dock, etc.
