We will be staying in the Chianti area for a week in early October and would like to find a self-catering opportunity with pet free and smoking free accomodations. We'd like to be close to vineyards and the countryside as well as Siena. Any suggestions?

Chianti is in the Tuscany region of Italy. Try VRBO, Italy, Tuscany. There is also a webside called tuscanyaccommodations. I've only had experience with VRBO, so good luck. There are so many rentals there, that you should have no problem finding something you like.
