If you had to select one, would you visit Segesta or Selinute? Im in the final planning stages for our trip to Sicily this year and trying to decide between these two. Thanks!
Segesta is a smaller archeological park, with a very well preserved temple. The views are amazing. It is also closer to both Palermo and Trapani, therefore if you come from that direction and you have little time, Segesta is the obvious choice.
Selinunte is a much larger and more complete archeological park, although maybe none of the temples are as well preserved as Segesta. It is farther from the north and it will take more time to visit, but if you are an avid archeology fan, that is probably the more rewarding choice.
Thanks. We would be coming from Agrigento, so am finding the travel challenging without a car.
If you are coming from Agrigento, then I'm sure you will have visited the Valley of the Temples near Agrigento. Unless you are an archeologist, or someone addicted to Greek antiquity, if you visit the ones in Agrigento, which are probably the top of the top, then there is no need to deal with the hassle of trying to reach Selinunte or Segesta without a car.
I "sort of" agree with Roberto. The Agrigento temples are amazing, but Segesta is such a special place. We visited it without a car, but we were in western Sicily anyway. In any case, in the choice between Segesta and Selinute, I strongly suggest Segesta.
