I will be flying into Palermo, Sicily, mid-day on May 1, renting a car, and driving west to Erice to stay for a couple of nights. I plan to stop at the Segesta ruins on the way. May 1 is a national holiday in Italy. Does anyone know if the Segesta site will be open, or a good way to check on that? So far, I have not found that information anywhere else, and will keep looking and inquiring, but I thought one of you travel gurus might guide me in finding this information. Grazie all.
This question sound familiar. Did you already email us?
This is a new question, concerning if Segesta is open on the May 1 holiday. I did receive a response since I also posted the question on Trip Advisor's Sicily Forum. Their expert "Vagabonda" advised that Segesta is open every day. However she also warned about stopping there if I had baggage in my car, even locked in the trunk. She said stolen baggage was a problem in Sicily and even linked me to a police warning about the issue. Probably good information for anyone traveling by car in Sicily. I wonder if RS experts share the same concern.
Laura, you may be thinking of another message I sent to the RS office a few weeks ago, asking if the RS Sicily Tour makes a stop at Segesta on the way back to Palermo. I believe I was told it depended on the particular guide and situation on the particular day, and not to count on it.
