See if a private room at the Beehive hostel is available for your dates. It has gotten great reviews for years, and is near the main transport hub (Termini). Private bath, shared kitchen/lounges/laundry/terrace, etc.

https://www.the-beehive.com

Special 2-week isolation rates: €250 - €350 for 2 weeks

Edited to add reviews on Hostel World and TA (and no, you don't have to be a 20-something backpacker to enjoy a hostel...especially if working with a shoestring budget but can swing a private room). :O)

Hi Stonepebble,

Would you consider a stay at a monastery or convent type hostel?

I believe most have a private room with minimalist accommodations and most likely a curfew.

Most probably serve breakfast.

I have no experience staying at these places but thought I would offer the suggestions.

Good luck, and I hope you find a room.

Adding: I looked on their direct websites, and it seems that the guest houses are close to the city centre in Rome.

Edited 8/25:
Don't know if you would be allowed to at least go and get your food.

There is a market in Termini station as well as other little markets near the city centre.

The markets have ready-made sandwiches and other foods.

Can't use public transport to quarantine has to be private transport. I am a dual citizen and this is the information we received this week.

beehive may be your best bet, but how are you going to get food? You can't take public transport, or shop, or leave. Isolation is isolation.
Seems a little ridiculous you haven't sorted this out before the week of travel.
Alternatively, an airbnb apartment and a lot of Uber Eats.

About food is not a real problem, because in Italy now is plenty of shops/bar/restaurants with delivery service.

Right. If you're staying at the Beehive, note that they say that they can provide, "deals with nearby restaurants and bars for cheap takeout / delivery."

Let us know where you ended up?

The Beehive and domusnascimbeni are not offering quarantining rooms. I'm still looking for a place. The monastery/convent seems like a VERY good idea. Problem is finding one that will offer quarantine room. Keep the recommendations coming guys. (The advice from those who have gone before me and are familiar with the local area is appreciated.) Still looking guys. It's a looooong story but it came down to last minute so I'm trying to do the best I can. If I can't find a place to quarantine very soon, I'm not sure what will happen. Maybe I'll be in limbo at the airport until I find a place.

I'm aware that private transportation is required. (I'm looking for a place that will send a car or a van to the airport.)

Wow. They should remove the "2-week self-isolation rates" statement from their website if that's not the case.
I just shot them a note about that. :O(

Taking a quick look around the net, I saw mention from another traveler finding it difficult to track down accommodations willing to take on quarantined guests. Someone else mentioned that they found theirs on airbnb.

But you didn't clearly answer Frank's question? Do you absolutely know for a fact that you're going to be allowed into Italy with a U.S. passport, regardless of where you've been the last few months?

On the off chance, have you asked on the Rome TripAdvisor forum - as (more) locals read that, they might know the status of some quarantine options. good luck

Inquiring minds still want to know:
Where are you traveling from?
Why are you traveling now?

for those who haven't seen the previous post it appeared about a month ago that stonepebble has been living in Vietnam. There was considerable discussion about visiting Italy as a tourist from non-listed countries (at the time a month ago Vietnam was not listed as permitted into Italy).

So this isn't a spur of the moment urgent trip.

The previous thread is https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/italy-august-2020-will-i-be-turned-away

It sounded at that time like stonepebble was planning to fly from Vietnam to Italy.

Is they are arriving tomorrow (the 26th, not the 27th noted in the OP) they are probably in transit by now. If they are hoping to arrive on the 27th (Thursday) we may be able to give a little more advice before the flight.

Either way we should know in a couple of days if they are admitted and have gone into isolation somewhere.

Please keep us in the loop, stonepebble so we can all learn from your experiences...

Loving this thread and especially Nigel's contribution. I have so little to occupy my travel interests these days and can't wait to get back to Italy when they will have us Americans. I am planning to contact the Beehive as I'm considering a long (2 mo) stay.

Cynthia, your situation is different than the OP's. You first have to make sure you are allowed to enter Italy with a U.S. passport when you are wanting to do so. He is trying to do this SOON, with a U.S. passport, after many months spent in Asia. Different deal. And even if you can enter Italy, it's unsure at this point what 2 months at this hostel might cost you.
