Seeking affordable B&B's in Cinque Terre and Portovenere for impromptu hol

After 8 years I'm returning to the Cinque Terre with my girlfriend at the beginning of September and I find that all the numbers of the rooms and B&Bs that I saved are no longer working! We're pretty much no-frills travellers and I'm thinking that we'll spend a couple of days in the Cinque Terre and then a couple of days around Portovenere and then head home to London.

Of course, we're looking for clear, basic and inexpensive accomodation. In a pinch, I'll try and book the lovely ostello in Manarola, but we'd probably prefer somewhere we can get into during the day.

Our budget is something under USD$100 / GBP£70 / 80 euro a night (or a budget option for one part of the journey).

Recommendations and/or pointers to web sites would be greatly appreciated!

In Portovenere, we have always stayed at the Hotel Genio. It is in the center of the old town and up among the castle remains.

the owners have always been friendly and accomodating. It appears to be above you budget but I would suggest it anyway.

Hi Ron,

Cheers for that - I saw that it came highly recommended, too. My vague plan was to find cheap accommodation in the Cinque Terre and splurge on Portovenere, but I've just received word that the Ostello in Manarola is fully booked!

Alas. €120 per night wouldn't be so bad, but the pound is absurdly weak these days. Shame, really. Still, perhaps I should try and book a couple of nights there anyway!

Thanks again!

Hi John,

This past May I stayed with Edi's Rooms in Riomaggiore (www.wel.it/Vesignaedi) and loved it! We were in the Case Mimi room which was 80EUR and had the best view of the ocean, huge balcony, clean room, refrigerator, & coffee maker. Edi also had other rooms you could rent for less. But if you want one with a view it was absolutely wonderful.

Good luck and have a wonderful trip! :-)

We are staying at a place in La Spezia which is close to your area. It is a gorgeous place and I think that you will appreciate the rates once you see it. Check it out at www.villainlirici.it. We will be there in mid-Sept. but referred another person there who just returned and absolutely raved about it!!! It is actually a couples home that has a panoramic view over the Bay of Poets with a swimming pool to boot. We are taking the second floor which is 180 E per night but the lower floor I belive is about 100 E per night. Would definitly be worth a look and inquiry...............hope this helps! If so let me know!

John,

I went back and looked at the rates for the Villa in Lirici and for 2 people it is 120 E per night and for 4 people 180 E per night..............the owners also ahve the kitchen stocked for your arrival, provide a lot of extras that other places don't. If this is within your price range it would be worth your while to contact him via email. Very nice people!!!

Hope this helps!!!

Just an update on my search (with profuse thanks for all the suggestions):

Hotel Genio Portovenere - It looks wonderful, though received a cryptic reply in English. I'm struggling, but I've tried to reply in Italian ;-)

Edi's Rooms - That's pretty much what I was hoping for (though I'm keen on staying in Manarola again). Still, I'm going to check their availability.

URL for the Villa in Lerici is actually http://www.villainlerici.it/ - looks lovely, but I'm assuming it's out of my price range? Couldn't find rates ...

And the villa in Levanto looks lovely (my memory is that pretty much all of the villages are gorgeous), but I'll probably not choose that one.
