Seeking advise for strikes in October

We had already planned our trip in Italy and booked the flight/train tickets. Just found some information regarding the strikes in October from the website http://www.cgsse.it/web/guest/home

1. 15/10/2016 Rail transport FSI Group Spa, Fs Spa, Spa Trenitalia, RFI Spa, Trenord Srl -
Excluded from the strike of the Cargo Division staff National
from 21:00 of 10/15 to 21.00 on 10/16

Can someone please advise if this strike will cancel all scheduled trains on Sunday 10/16? If so, should we ask for refunds for our train tickets although the tickets are non-refundable?

2. 21/10/2016 Airplane transport Techno Sky -
Strike availability service from 00.00 to 24.00 of the 21/10 31/10 National

Will this strike affect the airports and the flights?

Thanks!

Jeff

This is the official website:

I don't see no. 1.

There is a general strike on 21 Oct called by the USB Conf. labor union.
It will affect all categories of transport, but it's not a large labor union, so not sure if it will affect your flight.
USB has approximately 250,000 members. Compare with the 6 million workers with CGIL, the largest union.

The first strike seems to come from an union (CAT) so tiny that it is the first time I see it named. USB looks huge in comparison.

On the official website they show a nation wide strike on October 21st. I have booked tickets on a Frecciarossa train in the afternoon - from Bologna to Rome - do these trains usually run ? If not will they move passengers onto trains at other times that day?

A strike never cancels all trains, since laws require that a minimum of "essential" service is preserved on the main, long-distance lines (but with fewer options on small, regional lines). If your reserved train is actually cancelled, then the railway would either refund it or allow you to use the ticket on a different departure.

Many, if not most, of the strikes are canceled before the announced date. That's because Italian law requires notice of a strike be given ahead of time. Thus unions with a grievance have to anticipate an action, but, at the same time, it provides a grace period for the management and the union to resolve the issue.

I was in Italy last October during the transit strike then (I don't remember who called the strike). I was taking the train from Florence to Santa Margherita Ligure. I went to the train station the day before the strike to see if I could get any info on my train. The only answer I received was to wait until the next day to see. On return to the station the next day, there were masses of lines at the ticket office and wherever any Trentitalia person happened to be. I was lucky, my train was not affected ( just looked at the board listing train departures). I was surprised the train did run but on second thought, the train goes on and ends in Milan. So the Florence/Milan leg was important enough to keep running. I was also lucky in that I did not HAVE to be in SML by any specific time. I investigated alternatives with the help of the B&B owner in Florence.
Bottom line, you will not know until the day of your departure. If you MUST be in a specific place at a specific time, look for alternative modes of transport. I had my IDL just in case I needed to rent a car. I also looked into buses.
Good luck and don't fret about it too much. And don't expect answers from the station people to questions they do not have answers to.

I will try to contact the Trenitalia see if they have some information regarding the 10/15-10/16 strike.

Also, I found http://www.italotreno.it/en offering train service as well. Our trip is Milan to Venice, and this company only serves Milan to Bologna, Bologna to Venice. Anyway, still an alternative option.

Finger crossed...

Because Italo is a private train service will it be effected by a national strike?
