Seeking accommodation recommendations for Palermo

My husband and I will be visiting Sicily the first week of May. We would like recommendations for where to stay. We have been looking at places near LaCala Porto and also in the historic district. Our plans are to see the historic sites in Palermo, and also take some day trips to other sites in Sicily. Would like to have recommendations on the best areas to stay in Palermo. We are also trying to decide if we want to stay in a luxury hotel or a nice airbnb. Thanks for any recommendations.

I enjoyed my 4 night stay at B&B Delle Viittorie back in 2017.
This B&B is very conveniently located in the heart of the historic center.
My room was spacious and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Enjoy your trip!

Definitely stay in the center, everything is walkable from there, main train station included. Much of it is pedestrianized as well, which makes it a pleasant place to stay.

It’s been a few years, but Palermo was peak Airbnb/VRBO territory when I stayed there. Great places to choose from and the best value for dollar I’ve encountered anywhere. I stayed in a large flat with a balcony overlooking Quattro Canti, and it was the cheapest place on my whole trip. I’ve cooled on Airbnb overall, but this is one city I’d give it a serious look.

I stayed in the same hotel last May that Priscilla mentioned. The location is excellent! I attended the opera one evening, and it’s a very short walk to it. I also recommend taking a taxi from the airport to the hotel. Yes, it’s more expensive, but I know I enjoyed Palermo more during my five days having a great first impression of the city vs. arriving by train or bus.

Another one I can’t give a review, but I did reserve a room at Palazzo Arone dei Baroni di Valentino at first before deciding on the less expensive hotel. The Palazzo sounded wonderful with a unique experience! If I was just staying there three nights instead of five, I probably would have stayed there. The location is on one of the main tourist streets - equally convenient.

Annette- RS tours don’t always stay at the same hotel, but one of his go-to hotels is Hotel Ambasciatori. Our RS Sicily tour stayed there, but it was full when I tried to book. We ended up staying at B&B Delle Vittorie in 2022 and loved it. Its corners on the pedestrian-only Via Maqueda and is convenient to historic sites and lots of restaurant choices.
