Seeing Ostia Antiqua on the way to the Airport-Logistics?

Our European vacation ends in Rome and to get back home, we fly out of the airport there (Rome Airport Fiumicino - FCO). Our flight leaves really early in the morning - at 7:30 AM on a Sunday. This airport is off to the west of Rome and not that far from the Ostia Antiqua site. Our plan was to take the train from Rome to Ostia Antiqua Saturday morning, visit the Ostia Antiqua site and then stay somewhere near the airport. Any suggestions as to how to make this work? I'm not sure where we can leave our luggage while we visit the site, and where the best (hopefully inexpensive) place is to stay that can be accessed via public transportation and from which we can get to the airport in the early morning hours. Any suggestions?

Also how early should we get to the airport for a 7:30 AM flight. I know here in the U.S., it is recommended that people arrive at the airport 3 hours before the flight--but I'm not sure if that applies in this case. But if we have to be there at 4:30 AM in the morning, I guess we will do that.

And for the morning, is Uber an option? Or should we go with a taxi. (I'm going to assume that public transport that early in the morning might not be an option.)

Thanks for any suggestions!!!

Ten years ago, we were coming towards Rome from Naples, on our last day before flying home early the next morning. The train stopped a two minute walk from the Ostia Antica site. We got out and walked to the entrance, and the guards let us stash our bags in their building. We had just the afternoon to see Ostia before closing time, and didn’t see all of it. We collected our luggage upon leaving and they called us a taxi — Uber wasn’t around back then.

We took the taxi to the Hilton at Fiumicino Airport. You’d have to check on their current rates, but the Airport Hilton worked for us. Right at the airport, it was about a minute and a half walk to the terminal. I can’t guarantee that the Ostia guards still let people leave bags for part of a day, but that was all basically door to door service for both Ostia and the flight home.

We visited Ostia Antica on our way home too. However, we checked into the FCO Hilton first and left our bags there. Then we went to Ostia Antica, when finished we returned the car and walked to the Hilton. Easy.Ostia Antica is very close to FCO.

Is there perhaps a place to leave bags at the station? We visited Ostia Antica a couple of years ago, and I'm remembering having to climb up, over, and down a very large bridge to get to the actual site. That could be difficult with luggage.

No Uber in Italy

Check in to your airport hotel first -they will hold your bags before check in time
Then have them call a taxi to take you to Ostia Antica

For your flight -that is probably going to some where in Europe so getting there about 2 hours before flight should be fine
The check in desk probably won’t be open any earlier than that
