I bought Rick Steve's Italy book but not Rome specifically, as we're going to multiple places in Italy. I've been told we must take a fountain tour at night (but not a private tour, just walk and see the fountains). I've tried to research but can't find a map or any information where to start/end - basically a fountain map? Imagine we'll want to start at Pantheon and see it before it closes. Any help would be much appreciated!
If you have a map of Rome, you can map out your route by looking at every main piazza - chances are there's a fountain. If your book has an index, check for "fontana" or "fountain" under Rome for specific names. St. Peter's Piazza has two fountains (the piazza gets closed off at 11pm), then going east is Piazza Navona with three fountains, then the Pantheon with one. Others of interest are the Fontana del Tritone in Piazza Barberini (this is a major intersection), the Trevi Fountain, the fountain in front of the Spanish steps, the lions fountain in Piazza del Popolo, the Tortoise Fountain in the Jewish Ghetto, the fountains on each street corner at the church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, the fountain at Piazza della Reppublica near the Termini station, and many more. Some are more impressive at night than others, of course. You might want to google images of fountains in Rome to see what appeals to you.
Or just google "fountains of Rome". Simple.
Thx.. I did google but only got official tours Are many of these listed above walking
Distance from each other?
Several are within walking distance, depending on how much walking you want to do. The furthest apart are Piazza Reppublica and St. Peter's. You should be able to locate them on a street map of Rome. You can google and choose the "Images" tab you'll see photos. The most interesting to me are the ones in Piazza della Reppublica, Piazza del Popolo, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and St. Peter's, the last more for the night illumination of the church.
