See Duomo di Milano by hired car/driver on the way from the airport to Bellagio?

Is it possible to do a “drive by” to see the Duomo from a car? When we land in Milan we have hired a car to take us to Bellagio. Do you think it’s possible if we ask the driver to drive by the Duomo to at least see it from the outside on our way to Bellagio? Are there public streets close enough to see it?

Assuming you're landing in Malpensa you won't be going anywhere near central Milan on your way to Bellagio. Well, unless your driver gets paid by the km. Diverting through Milan would add a bunch of mileage and time (and I assume expense) to your trip.

Milan’s airport, Malpensa, is north of the city. So your driver would have to head south, go into the city, see Duomo, reverse , head north of Milan and then east to Bellagio.

Thinking the same as hiredman and ChristineH: your car service won't be going anywhere near central Milan en route to Bellagio, and your driver probably doesn't really want have to make a detour into it, either. Traffic can be fierce, it's more time in the car, and more $$: not worth it if all you have time for is a flash-by of just the exterior, if that's even possible.

If you really want to see the Duomo, you could take the train to Milano Cadorna station from Malpensa. There are some luggage storage options there, then walk over to the Duomo. Return, collect your luggage and take a train from Cadorna station to Como Lago station. A driver to Bellagio from there should be a lot less than from Malpensa. You could even get a fast ferry to Bellagio from there.

I like Sam’s idea. You could also put your luggage in a taxi and have the driver take you to Duomo square and then back to the train station. Good luck!
