Security checks

Not having flown out of the country, I was wondering if you can wear your money belt through security checks without arousing undue suspicion--for example, if you need to go through one of the x-ray machines. I know I need to keep my passport accessible, of course. Thanks...

I've never had a problem going through the older metal detectors wearing my money belt, as the zipper is made of plastic. But with the new body scanner equipment, it has to be removed.

We have had mixed experience. Normally the money belt doesn't cause a problem because of no metal. However, in Germany three years ago, someone noticed or detected my wife's money belt after going through the scanner but there was no alarm. But it resulted in her being taken to a room and stripped to her underwear. Now we remove them and place them in a secure pocket in the day bag. After all, you cannot be too careful with a slightly greying, 60+, elementary librarian.
