Security at Stazione Termini

Security at the tracks has become more formal. See pictures here. Even this is being credited to preparation for the Jubilee. The good news is, the number of people accessing trains to "help" people is negligible these days. All the scammers are now in the front of the terminal.

Interesting. I suppose that once installed, these will remain past the Jubilee and become a permanent fixture...

This was how it was in Milano in May....I LIKE it a lot. Keeps all the riff-raff away, and it's much less crowded at the binario.

I'm very glad to see this at the train stations in Italy.... especially Roma...hope to see this in Firenze when we return next May.

We live about 800 meters from the Westbahnhof station in Vienna and similar type security systems are being discussed. Here it is because of the challenge of the migrant influx. Today trains from Hungary are not allowed into Austria, and Germany has shut down any trains arriving from Austria. We were headed to Hungary this weekend, but now that seems a little sketchy - don't want to get over and not be able to get back!

With the recent train security issue in The Netherlands/France and the recent troubles at the Budapest Keleti station, I imagine that train travel in Europe - which has been SO EASY and unrestrained by the security challenges you see at airports - is destined for a change. I'm not a big fan of these security checkpoints as I 've always enjoyed the "freedom" of Train travel in Europe. Since we've never owned a car living in Europe, trains have become our primary out-of-town transport system. Spain has had security measures in place for years; Now it seems the rest of Europe will soon follow suit. Too bad it's come to this.
