Secure parking

We will be driving around much of Central and Northern Italy for several weeks in a rental car. Are the parking lots safe? Will the car be secure in them? Thinking mostly of CT and Florence.

Very limited parking in both places mentioned, but generally safe.

If you're going to rent a car for several weeks, you should look into the lease/buyback programs offered by Renault & Peugeot. The cars come with full insurance coverage and 24/7 free roadside assistance, and you get a brand-new car.

We leased a car as mentioned above.

In CT, I wasn't happy with the parking around the train station (a lot of graffiti, broken glass and loiterers) so I asked and found on street parking across from the entrance to the Navy base. The car was fine and it was free.

In Florence, we found an underground parking lot about 1 mile north of our hotel in the center. We didn't want to risk a ticket, so hoofed it from there.

Be sure to take a GPS, not only will it help with directions when no street signs are visible, our TomTom will take you directly to public parking. If you don't like the parking it takes you to, have it navigate to another parking lot.
