Secret Tour

I was wondering about the Secret Itineraries Tour in the Doge's Palace. I have read on TA people commenting on it being a fantastic tour. Anyone recommend it? Is it a must not miss tour?
Thanks

I really enjoyed it. It gave me a better perspective on the Doge's palace, which can be a confusing site. The guide was interesting, with good quality info. Assuming you are going in the next few months, book a tour as early in the day as possible--even in October it was hot in some of the areas visited (at one point, you're at the very top level of the building, right under the roof), and apparently in the heat of summer they can't visit some of the rooms.

We found it interesting but short of FASCINATING. Just a B+. Our guide -- and of course this might vary with the guide -- was completely, over the top fixated on the story of Casanova, who was imprisoned in the area you'll tour.

I thoroughly enjoyed that tour as well. I would agree with the previous poster, however, about the heat. My visit last September was unusually hot for Venice at that time of year. The tour was very hot and humid, of course, but I was so happy that I did it. Have a great time!

I took the tour and loved it. There's lots of history and insight into the workings of medieval government and general life. In February it was freezing in some parts, but our guide said it is much worse in summer, when it is stifling. The tour goes mainly through the top floor, right under the roof. There is no A/C or heating up there. I think if people were very uncomfortable during the tour, it would detract from their enjoyment. On the other hand, it gives you a better idea of what it was like for the people who worked there - or were imprisoned there.
