Secret Itinerary Tour at Doge Palace

Is this correct?
I went to the http://palazzoducale.visitmuve.it website to see about purchasing tickets to the secret Itinerary tour. It transferred me to http://www.vivaticket.it/ where I am asked to register as a new user. Along with asking for the normal info like name and address, they want my passport number and date of birth. I am hesitant to provide that type of information . Is it really necessary in order to purchase two tickets.

I had those same concerns when I went to purchase Secret Itinerary Tour tickets a few years ago. The feedback I got on this forum allowed me to get comfortable, so I set up the Vivaticket account and purchased tickets. I've experienced no problems related to the information provided.

Edit: I found my post titled Palazzo Ducale Booking Question dated 11/24/14. Forgot about this, but I was able to use my driver's license number rather than my passport number to set up the Vivaticket account.

Yes, I thought it strange but I did it last year. You will enjoy the tour!

Know before you go - much of the area you visit is under the mostly metal roof and without AC. Choose the earliest time slot, take a fan and a bottle of water. Great tour.

It's a shame that red tape is so cumbersome in Venice. But really, what can someone possibly do with your passport number? Even if your actual passport got stolen, it's hard to imagine its value to a thief. If they asked for your date of birth, your social security number, and your mother's maiden name, then I might consider going to Disney World instead.

You will be asked to show your passport at every hotel in Italy when you check in---it is a requirement that they register you with the local, police. But do not be concerned-–--a passport number is jot a basis for identity theft. Just make sure you reclaim your passport before you depart, if they ask to hold it for a time to complete the registration process.

I was also a little taken aback by the passport thing, but a forum search showed me that it's not uncommon for tickets in Europe. I bought the tickets, no worries, and we enjoyed the tour. Be aware that there are a few climbs up steep, narrow stone steps, but nothing unmanageable unless you have serious mobility issues. The topmost rooms were extremely warm in May, and I believe they closed those rooms for summer shortly after we were there. Also, you don't need to buy separate admission to the palace if you buy the Secret Itineraries tour. After the tour, you are free to explore the rest of the palace on your own.

I wonder if asking for passport info is to prohibit agents from buying tickets for their clients or for resale.

Definitely go early. We were there in late June and they shortened our tour due to the heat. Fun tour.
