Secret Itinerary Doge Palace

I'm confused on the Secret Itinerary Tour for the Doge Palace. If I book this will I get a regular Doge tour plus some additional rooms and such? Or does this tour just show you the secret rooms and you're on your own for the rest of the palace?

The secret Itinaries tour covers some areas not covered by regular tours. It skips a few halls that can be seen on your own later. Have your hotel make the reservation for you. Costs only a few euro.

I did the Secret Itineraries Tour last week and thought it was great and VERY informative. I would recommend it. Only downside was the Bridge of Sighs is mostly covered for maintenance/repairs which really spoils the view. I understand that very soon the scaffolding will be coming down, maybe in time for your visit.

We leave 3 weeks from today! I'm so excited. I think I'm going to have serious withdrawals when I get back. Planning and reading all these forums has consumed my life since last Spring! I'm still confused on ticket pricing and where to buy and do I need do it before I go? I had planned on buying the San Marco Museum Plus Pass when I got there. Can I just add the itinerary tour when I get there? I've read I should do it before? RS says the tickets are 12 euro if I have the San Marco Museum Plus Pass. My question is, if I order the itinerary tickets before I go, how do they honor the 12 euro price if I don't have the San Marco Museum Plus Pass yet? Thanks for the help with my foggy brain!

where do you meet up with your tour guide if you purchase your tickets online for the secret itinerary tour?

we just wanted to see the Doges Palace on our own (early Oct 2011) and tried to get Museum Plus pass when buying those tickets. It was not available, though R Steve's book says avail thru Oct.
(someone brought up that pass earlier in this thread.) We bought the slightly more expensive pass for 18 euro and that gets you into lots of museums. can be worthwhile if you will be there a few days. Sorry no info about the secret itineraries. I thought the place was terrific just walking around it. We overheard a few private guides talking in some of the rooms and that was very informative. I can see why a guided tour for a place like this could be valuable.

we went to the Correr across St. Marks Square, Ca Rezzonica (an old palace, interesting and not too huge, with nice garden, as I recall). Glass museum in Murano. small but nice. oops, maybe that's the one with the garden. We ate our lunch in one of the gardens. Also interested in a couple of other good places but ran out of time and energy. We walked most places but took vaporetto back from Ca Rez to rest.
I thought it was worth the money, since most admissions to these places were at least 6 euro. At that rate, go to 3 and you've paid for the pass. Go to the museum website (will repost if I can find it) for details on what the pass covers.

We purchased our tickets for the secret itineraries tour online. When you arrive, you go inside the main door, with your email confirmation, and get in the line for online reservations, where they will give you your ticket. Then, you are directed out of the ticket office, through a side door, directly into the courtyard of the Palace, where the "ticket taker" directs you where to stand at the assigned time for your tour. In the meanwhile, you can wander around the courtyard and take pictures and about 5 minutes before your tour begins, you will see a group of people huddling under the sign and the tour guide just walks up and asks for everyone on the 9:30 tour to follow him/her.

Julie, what other museums did you see with the Museum Pass. Any worth the time?

Unfortunately, could not find link toofficial Venice Museum website. It will tell you what's covered and prov. desc. of the places. I did find verbiage below, but Pass is more expensive on this site. maybe there is a booking fee. we just bought it at Doges Palace, arr there for tickets and visit when it opened in a.m. Note: I don't think this covers Guggenheim collection and some other notable sights. Also note, diff. web sites quote diff prices/expire dates. try to find the official site. "The Museum Pass is a Cumulative ticket valid for all the Civic Museums currently open and connected with the service. This Ticket is valid for 6 months and grant only one admission to each Museum. Ticket must be picked up at the Doge's Palace. The Museum Pass includes following museums of Venice: Doge's Palace, Museo Correr, Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Monumental Rooms of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, Ca' Rezzonico - Museum of XVIII° Century Art, Museum of Palazzo Mocenigo, Carlo Goldoni's House, Ca' Pesaro, Internazional Gallery of Modern Art + Oriental Art Museum, Glass Museum (Murano), Lace Museum (Burano). Price: From €21,00 per person" (we paid 18 in early Oct) Most, if not all, are described in RS Italy guide. Check previous RS helpline posts (July and Sept '11) for comments on these places. Our favorite church visits: San Zaccaria nr st. mark's (1 euro, visit the crypt, too), San Rocco (free?), and Frari (!!) (3 euro)
Fantastic.
