"Secret" entrance to St. Peter's Basilica

Question about the "secret" or hidden entrance to St. Peter's Basilica from the Sistine Chapel:

Can anyone use this if you are already in the Sistine Chapel? Or do you have to be on a tour with an authorized guide?

Some tour groups can use it, apparently not all
