Second Trip to Rome 1.5 days

My wife and I will have a day and a half in Rome first week of June before flying home to the US after 2 weeks in Puglia region.
We have explored the main tourist sites in Rome during our visit a few years ago, including The Vatican, Trastevere, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon.
This trip, we plan to revisit some of these favorites during the half day.
But then have a full day to explore some new areas.

Where would you suggest we visit?
We are considering the area south of the Colosseum, like the Baths of Caracalla and sites along the Appian Way. We'll be there on a Wednesday, so I understand that the bike/walking path parallel to the Appian Way will be closed. So I'm concerned it will be busy with traffic and not enjoyable. Would you recommend spending better part of a day on the Appian Way and Catacombs of San Sebastiano (Callisto Catacombs closed on Wed).
Very open to other ideas for how best to spend the day. We are fit and enjoy the outdoors, walking and of course, great food, pastries and gelato!

My favorite square in Europe is Rome's Piazza del Popolo. Good day trip options are Florence, Orvieto and Naples.

Thank you for your suggestions!
Here's what I'm thinking at the moment. Does this seem worthwhile?
Our hotel is in the Ludovisi neighborhood, just south of the Borghese park.
- Walk south through Monti neighborhood
- Orange Gardens
- Keyhole View
- Avetine Hill
- Baths of Caracalla (about 90 minutes of walking to this point)
- Taxi to Appian Antica Cafe area
- Appian Way walk north
- Catacombs of San Sebastiano
- Taxi back to hotel
Additional options to possibly hit after all this.
- Vicus Caprarius (The Water City)
- Horti Sallustiani Gardens

Thank you, but our stop in Rome is at the end of 2 weeks exploring Puglia, so we want to stick to Rome for the final 1.5 days.
