Seattle to Ravello, Italy

My son has decided to get married on Sept. 2 in Ravello, Italy. Can you give us some tips for getting there without spending a fortune and 25 hours from Seattle to Naples? Obviously, there is not much time for saving for this trip :) Thanks so much.

Arlene,

In the same situation, I'd begin by checking prices for flights into Rome. I assume you'll be departing from SEA?

You might consider spending a day or two in Rome before heading for Ravello (or possibly even Sorrento?). That would provide some much needed "rest time" to recover from jet lag and get organized.

Choosing Ravello for a wedding is a bit unusual, and will be somewhat more challenging for transportation as a result.

I assume your Son has checked the "legalities" of a wedding in Italy? Many people have the legal part of the ceremony performed here, and then just have a ceremonial service in Italy.

Hopefully someone here will have some definite answers for you.

Good luck and congratulations to your Son and his fiance!

Hi, Arlene.

From SeaTac, London usually has the best price, and it's a non-stop. From there, you have a choice of discount airlines that will get you close, and are really quite affordable. If you have the time, taking a day or two in London on there way there back may be well worth it financially.

The shortest flights from Seattle to Naples are about 13hrs and are not cheap. +2hr before for check in, your commute to the airport, 1hr for customs & immigration, and then your trip to your destination = 18ish total travel hours. They run about $300 more than other flights. Most of the other flights run 16-22hrs.

From experience, I'd definitely recommend breaking it up if you can afford the time!

I would just fly to Rome. It is early enough that you should be able to find flights for less then $1000 but you will probably not want to wait too much longer.

No wonder your son wants to marry in Ravello. It is an incredibly beautiful little town perched on a high cliff overlooking the Mediterranean. IMO, it is truly one of the most beautiful and romantic places in all of Italia. You will need to make your way from Roma to Napoli then to Sorrento. It isn't difficult. From Sorrento you take the bus to Amalfi...an amazing trip in itself. Then in Amalfi, right by the seaside you grab the bus to Ravello. They leave hourly and it takes just under 30 minutes. There is some expression in Italian that says Ravello is the town where heaven kisses the earth. It's true. It is breathtaking. I found a WONDERFUL B&B in the heart of town with amazing views, a great breakfast and very friendly hosts. I think we paid 120 euros a night. It is just two doors down from a place that charges more then double that. It is called Hotel Parsifal, check out their website. I want to go back right now! We received a discount because we used cash...not sure how much of a discount. The views from the rooms and the terrace are unbelievable. If you can, spend a night or two in Sorrento before or after the wedding. Although Ravello is beautiful, there isn't a lot to see, although with a view like that, who cares. Enjoy!
