Searching for leather

Our trip to Italy is just two weeks away! Our three stops are Florence, Perugia, and Verona (with a possible quick trip to Venice).

Any advice on good quality leather in any of these cities? I would love to come home with a nice jacket. It's 100 degrees in Florence this week, so I probably won't be wearing it too soon :)

Thanks!

I really like the jacket I bought at Massimo Leather on Borgo la Noce near the Central Market in Florence. I thought the price was good for the quality of the jacket, and it still looks great after 4+ years of wear. No matter where you decide to buy your jacket, look at value (price and quality) rather than just the cheapest price (there's a reason they're cheap).

Ladyvet27, do a Search (gray box, top of this page) for "Leather Italy", "Leather Florence" etc., and you'll come up with a many threads with many suggestions and related info.

We also bought from Massimo in Florence and were happy, but wandering the outdoor leather market there might also be fun for you. I think its been noted that not all leather goods you buy anywhere there is actually from Italy, so if thats important to you, you'll have to stick with reputable shops and pay more.

While in Florence my husband had get a weekender bag, but he wanted an authentic one. Thank goodness we found Infinity Firenze! It is very close to the Ponte Vecchio. They have their actual workshop in the store, we were able to get a tour and see the leather, how they craft the items and meet the team. The wife/mom is actually from Boston. Great little family operation and the quality is amazing!!

I'm not entirely sure if they have jackets, but I guarantee they can recommend a place that does and that has real Italian leather - lots of knock offs around.

We were just in Florence yesterday and I found a beautiful, soft, stylish and well-made jacket at Massimo’s. I also went to Michelangelo’s leather for a purse, but he also had very nice jackets. I stepped into a few other shops for comparison, one with high priced coats marked 50% off and another one where the owner called me honey and tried to smooth-talk me. I’m glad I didn’t let the heat deter me. Good luck!

We were in Firenze in May and my son bought a jacket at the School of Leather, directly adjacent and behind Santa Croce. The leather is of outstanding quality and I’m sure he will enjoy the coat for many years. My sister in law works in the industry and suggested we go there for some long lasting of great quality. I’m sure you could get something less expensive on the streets, but this will last for decades.
